Did you know that in decades past, food crops were relatively much higher in silver content – especially wheat and other grains, as well as fruits and vegetables?
One of the earliest clinical studies reporting specifically on silver content in the foods we eat was conducted in 1940, by researcher R.A. Kehoe of UCLA. This study reported that an average daily intake of fruit and vegetables would provide between 50-100 mcg of silver as trace elements.
But by 1975 the amount of silver found in our diet – both food and water together – had dropped to staggeringly low levels. In fact, it just about fell off the scale.
Researchers found it necessary to use picograms (one trillionth of a gram) as the unit of measurement of silver in food and water instead micrograms (one millionth of a gram).
As shown in the “Report of the Task Group on Reference Man” by clinical researcher W.S. Snyder, by 1975 the average daily human dietary intake (including fluids) of silver was estimated to be a paltry 70 pg/day.
Yes, in just the 35 years between 1940 and 1975, silver levels in foods and drinking water plunged from being measured in millionths of a gram to trillionths of a gram.
In other words, barely perceptible amounts.
This is indeed a startling drop in the silver content of our food crops and drinking water.
But that’s nothing. By 1989 when the comprehensive 749-page book “Diet and Health: Implications for Reducing Chronic Disease Risk” was published – documenting the content of vitamins, minerals and other trace elements in foods and explaining their value to our health – silver was no longer even mentioned as one of the trace elements being found in food.
What Does This Mean for Our Bodies?
While the FDA claims there’s no relationship whatsoever between human intake of silver and improved health, Dr. Robert O. Becker, M.D., former surgeon and clinical researcher at Syracuse Medical University, vehemently disagreed.
As one of the pioneers of modern research into the healing benefits of electrically generated silver, Dr. Becker wrote that his studies had led him to believe that the lower one’s bodily silver levels are, the more sickness and disease one is likely to have. He wrote:
“While analyzing hair samples and questioning the parties involved, I noticed the correlation between low silver levels and sickness.
People who showed low silver levels in their hair analysis were frequently sick. They seemed to have innumerable colds, flu, fevers, and various other sicknesses.
I believe that a silver deficiency may be the key to the improper function of the immune system.”
And in fact, other clinical studies have shown that small amounts of silver circulating in the body boost immunity by triggering the infection-fighting capacity of white blood cells, as well as by increasing the body’s production of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.
As a mineral, silver also acts much like iron, carrying nascent oxygen on its surface throughout the human body and bringing it directly into our body’s cells and tissues in order to help clean out dead cells and oxygenate live cells.
Plus, silver itself is antimicrobial. In other words, it kills pathogens. In fact, it’s the world’s most powerful natural infection-fighting agent. And it just happens to be a safe, natural mineral in the same class as iron, zinc, copper, chromium and other beneficial minerals.
These facts have led many cutting-edge researchers to conclude that in years past the relatively high levels of the mineral silver in our food and drinking water helped maintain our health and well-being and protected us against infection and related infectious diseases, as well.
Deficiency in Silver Connected to Possible Drop in Immunity?
Many researchers over the years have found indications that prove silver does indeed play an important role in our health and immunity, and deficiency in silver impairs our immune system.
Dr. Becker also noticed a correlation between low silver levels and length of illness. He found that people who had low levels of silver (determined through hair analysis) experienced illnesses that also lasted much longer than people who had higher levels of silver. He believed a silver deficiency related to this as well.
In his best-selling book The Body Electric, and in his other writings, Dr. Becker reported that silver was doing something more than just killing disease-causing organisms. It was also stimulating immune response in humans. He concluded that silver deficiency leads to the improper functioning of the immune system.
He also noticed that silver was responsible for major growth stimulation of injured tissues as silver is a catalyst for the creation of healthy, new cells. Burn patients and even elderly patients achieved rapid healing of damaged tissue with the aid of electrically generated silver ions. In addition, he discovered that cancer cells could be changed back to normal cells when directly treated with electrically generated silver ions.
What’s more, Dr. Becker was not the only one to notice the relationship between silver levels and health. For example, cancer research scientist Dr. Gary Smith also reported a correlation between low silver levels, sickness and immune deficiency.
Silver and Cancer Cells
Dr. Smith found that people who have low silver levels tend to be frequently sick and to have innumerable colds, flus, fevers, and other illnesses. He states;
“Success (in cancer treatment) depends on silver in the person’s body. When silver is present, the cancer cells dedifferentiate and the body is restored. When silver levels are non-existent, the cancer growth rate continues because the cells cannot dedifferentiate…I suspect a silver deficiency is possibly one of the reasons cancer exists and is increasing at such a rapid rate.”
Essentially what Dr. Smith is saying is this: If there is enough silver in our system, cancer cells – which are mutated cells – will dedifferentiate back to a normal cell. He further suggests that lack of silver in our diets may be at least partially responsible for the increases in cancer we see today.
This is not an unreasonable hypothesis and would also explain the great results that other doctors who use silver to treat cancer have had. For example, Dr. Bjorn Nordstrom of the Karolinsky Institute in Sweden has been using silver in his cancer treatments for many years, and has had great success. He claims silver frequently brought rapid remission in patients who were previously given up on by other doctors.
The research of Drs. Becker, Smith, Nordstrom and others clearly indicate a direct relationship between silver levels in the body and illness. It also illuminates silver’s near-miraculous ability to reverse cancer in certain cases, and accelerate the healing of injured tissue.
Silver’s Profoundly Beneficial Effects on Our Immune System
