Keep Eye Infections and Irritation at Bay with Colloidal Silver
Can colloidal silver be used safely in the eyes, to treat eye infections such as Pink Eye and styes, or even just to soothe tired, itchy, sore, red or otherwise irritated eyes, and more?
Thousands of people have used colloidal silver in their eyes successfully, and without harm, for infections like Pink Eye and styes, and for allergy irritation and other eye-related ailments – and so can you.
I first heard of using colloidal silver to combat eye infections and irritation from Dr. James Balch, M.D., author of the bestselling book Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing. In his newsletter, he recommended using just a few drops in each eye, several times a day, of 5 ppm to 10 ppm colloidal silver, whenever there’s an active infection.
And according to Robert O. Young, PhD, author of the bestselling book The pH Miracle, colloidal silver works wonderfully for both eye and ear problems. He states:
“Eye or ear problems, including cataracts, glaucoma, redness, blurred vision, poor eyesight, ringing in the ears, earaches, soreness or swelling of the ears, eardrum damage, hardness of hearing, and (in rare cases) loss of hearing: Use 1 drop of colloidal silver topically (directly in the eye or ear) 3 times a day.“
Is It Safe to Use Colloidal Silver in the Eyes?
I personally don’t like using colloidal silver in my eyes on a regular daily basis, for the simple reason there’s very little clinical research on it. So no one really knows what truly safe levels are, especially for daily use.
There’s only one study I know of, which calls colloidal silver (nanosilver) “a boon to ocular therapies” and “a trove for retinal therapies,” meaning the researchers felt it was very effective against a variety of retinal diseases and other eye problems. You can see the study, here.
In an animal study, in which researchers tested colloidal silver extensively for toxicity, one of the experiments they did was to put silver in the eyes of guinea pigs over a 72-hour period, and then check for problems. The researchers wrote:
“In acute eye irritation and corrosion study, no mortality and toxic signs were observed when various doses of colloidal AgNPs were instilled in guinea pig eyes during 72 hr observation period. However, the instillation of AgNPs at 5,000 ppm produced transient eye irritation during early 24 hr observation time.“
In other words, extremely high concentrations of colloidal silver (5,000 ppm) caused “transient irritation” (i.e., temporary irritation) to the animal’s eyes. See here for more details.
Yet, in another animal study designed to determine silver toxicity, researchers performed an experiment in which they also used fairly high concentrations of colloidal silver in the animal’s eyes and on animal skin. They concluded, “There was no acute eye or dermal irritation or corrosion, and extremely low skin sensitization.”
In other words, no harm was caused to the animal’s eyes, even at 2,000 ppm. See here for more details.
If those studies carry over to human use, it would seem there’s no problem with using small amounts of colloidal silver in the eyes for short periods of time, as several of the doctors mentioned earlier have recommended. Most folks use only 5-10 ppm colloidal silver in their eyes, which, of course, is well below the 5,000 ppm threshold that caused temporary eye irritation in the first animal study mentioned above.
But I’m not a doctor. I’m just a journalist. So please don’t take this article as being “prescriptive” in nature. Check with your own local and experienced natural health doctor if you have an eye infection and would like to try colloidal silver.
That said, take a look at these first-hand accounts from people who have successfully used colloidal silver to help heal eye infections and irritation, and without harm.
Clearing Up Pink Eye Infections with Colloidal Silver
Conjunctivitis, also known as Pink Eye, is a very common eye ailment many of us have had at one time or another in our lives, and is known to be highly contagious.
Pink Eye can be either viral or bacterial, and can easily spread through hand-to-eye contact, or – as is believed by modern medicine – viral conjunctivitis might even be spread through sneezing and coughing.
With symptoms like discoloration to the white in the eye(s), itching or burning sensation in the eye(s), excessive production of tears, swollen eyelids, increased light sensitivity, and, in more serious infections, watery or mucus-laden discharge, it is very uncomfortable and can be stubborn to clear it up.
Here are just a few examples of how some have used colloidal silver to successfully and quickly clear up this tenacious eye infection:
“I’ve used the Silver Edge Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator for a bad case of Pink Eye. It was so bad my whole face was swelling up & my daughter who is an ophthalmologist said I needed to go into the doctor’s office right away. I just added a couple of drops of the silver into my eye every 30 minutes or so until it was on the mend, which was a couple of days.“
– M. Jansen, Scottsdale, AZ
Another avid colloidal silver user, S. Glentz from Michigan, wrote to say:
“One morning my 8-year-old granddaughter Breanna woke up with her left eye all swollen and full of pus, it was almost totally closed up.
Her mother soaked a wash cloth in the colloidal silver I keep them generously supplied with, made with my Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator.
Breanna held the wash cloth on her eye for 20 minutes, when she removed it the swelling was gone and her eye was all cleared up and the problem did not return.“
And Ann R.D. from Alabama wrote to tell us:
“I make batches for all family members, all of whom have different purposes for it. For example, our grandson got pink eye. A few drops of silver in each eye had an immediate effect and the pink eye was gone in 48 hours.
I recommended it to a friend whose son’s eyes were swollen shut with pink eye and within 48 hours, his eyes were clear.“
And even in my own experience many years ago, when our son Ron was sent home from school with Pink Eye, the school nurse called to tell us it was a particularly virulent strain and was going around the school. She asked us to keep him home for several days so as to help prevent the spread of the infection.
We started putting a few drops of colloidal silver into each eye periodically throughout the afternoon, and by the next day it was completely cleared up and he was back to school. The school nurse called asking us what in the world we had done, because she had never seen a case that bad clear up that quickly.
But colloidal silver isn’t just useful for pink eye, here’s some information on how you can keep other types of eye infections and irritation at bay using colloidal silver.
Reducing Painful Styes Using Colloidal Silver
Caused by the staphylococcus bacteria, a stye is a small, painful bump that grows on the inside or outside of the eyelid. Styes can be filled with pus and can cause red and painful swelling, depending on their location, and can last several days before they burst and heal.
While colloidal silver has been demonstrated in multiple clinical studies to be effective against the staph pathogen, can colloidal silver be used safely and effectively in the eyes to help combat painful styes?
According to the experienced colloidal silver users below, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” Let’s take a quick look at what colloidal silver users are saying…
A member of the Colloidal Silver Secrets Community on Facebook (join here) wrote to say she’s had fabulous success using colloidal silver against a nasty stye that formed on her eyelid. Here’s what she wrote:
“Night before last I felt an itching on my eyelid and it just felt like the skin was tight. Couple hours later before bed I looked in the mirror and sure enough it was bulging a bit as a stye was beginning.
So I first washed with a hot washcloth and then applied colloidal silver drops into my eye, and swabbed my eyelid with a Q-tip soaked in colloidal silver.
I continued to do that several times the next day and this morning when I woke up, it is completely gone. That is the fastest I’ve ever gotten rid of an eye stye in my life.“
– Julie P.
Another nice friend on the Colloidal Silver Secrets Community on Facebook wrote to say the following:
“Just the other day I was able to give a college student a small bottle to try for an eye infection, i.e., a stye.
His mother is a nurse and when he emailed her asking what to do as he had no insurance and little money her reply was to hit the internet and learn.
Well, I didn’t think he had that much time before he would have serious vision problems so I offered the colloidal silver. He was thrilled that in 48 hrs his eye looked normal again. Thank you yet again for helping someone in need.“
– Nan M., Pocatello, Idaho
It’s easy to see that many people are successfully clearing up their painful styes with colloidal silver used with careful moderation. But there are still even more uses to keep your eyes healthy and infection and irritation-free with colloidal silver.
Use Colloidal Silver to Prevent Eye Infections and Irritation from Contact Lenses
While contact lenses are wonderful tools for helping vision problems, they have one very large downside: improper use may lead to serious eye infections because they can be breeding grounds for bacteria, fungi, and other microbes.
Many of the above conditions can also be linked to contact lens use, usually caused by germs being introduced to the lens before putting the lens in the eye.
The good news is, you can harness the effective disinfectant properties of colloidal silver with your contact lenses to help keep your eyes infection-free.
For example, colloidal silver user C.L. posted the following comment on Steve Barwick’s Colloidal Silver Secrets Community on Facebook:
“Just an FYI, I have always had issues with comfort with my contacts. I rarely wear them because they become uncomfortable as soon as I put them in my eye. Well I decided that I was going to spray colloidal silver in my eyes with the contacts in just to see what would happen.
I am happy to report that I have been able to keep them in all day with no issues. I actually was able to keep them in for about two days with no issues. I am just amazed. I never liked the contact solution that I store them in, so I will be storing them in colloidal silver from now on.“

Relief from Eye Irritation Caused by Allergies with Colloidal Silver
In addition to contact lens use, eye irritation caused by allergy flare-ups from seasonal changes, dust, pollen, and dander can cause a whole host of eye issues, including itching, burning, excessive tears, light sensitivity, redness, eyelid and surrounding eye-tissue swelling, and more.
But can you use it to soothe allergy-related eye irritation? This happy colloidal silver user says:
“I put a drop or two in my eyes 1-3 times a day whenever they feel itchy due to allergies. It’s amazing how fast your eyes feel better, and sometimes all it takes is one dose!“
– Diane L., Erie, MI
What’s more, you can even relieve allergic eye irritation by spritzing your eyes with a fine mist spray bottle if you don’t happen have an eye-dropper handy. And you can even keep a convenient, small sprayer with you in case you need it on the go!
Pets, Eye Infections, and Colloidal Silver
Some happy colloidal silver users have even reported wonderful results easing their pets’ eye infections and injuries with colloidal silver.
Our old friend Gramma Bea Riley from Riley Farms in southern California wrote to say:
“Our dog tangled with a bear. Its eye was bloody – we sprayed colloidal silver – within minutes she was prancing around the barn as if nothing had ever happened.
The goat had pink eye – a couple of sprays of colloidal silver took care of it, too.“
And Dale W., wrote to explain how he eliminated eye infections with colloidal silver in his family’s kittens:
“One of the uses that we use colloidal silver for is on our cats. We have outside cats that have never seen a vet. Before colloidal silver was being used their health was marginal.
Kittens in the past would have these serious eye infections shortly after birth, but by using colloidal silver spray on the 2 most recent litters of kittens the infections were under control on the 1st group (they were born just before we got our generator) and the second, most recent litter, there were no infections at all.
We started spraying their eyes about 2 weeks after birth. BTW – the females are spayed now – no more litters – but we use colloidal silver in all of the cat’s food (about a tbsp. per bowl) twice a day. They are looking great!!!!!“
How to Use Colloidal Silver for Eye Infections and Irritation
As you can see from the above real-life accounts, there are a number of ways to use colloidal silver in the eyes to help with eye infections and irritation.
Here’s a short video demonstration I created to show you just how simple it is to use colloidal silver in the eyes with an eyedropper or a fine mist spray bottle:
Experienced colloidal silver users have also reported great success with using colloidal silver as an eyewash, and some soaked a cloth in colloidal silver and simply held it over their eye.
In Conclusion…
The bottom line is that thousands of people use colloidal silver successfully in their eyes, with amazing results.
Some say it cures their eye infections, such as Pink Eye infections and styes (staph infections of the eyes). Others say it helps them with allergies, itchy eyes, morning eye “crust,” and other similar problems.
Some even say it helps them with more serious eye problems, like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Of course, my position is that when it comes to your eyes, you should always tell you doctor what you’re doing so he can monitor your situation carefully. That way, you’ll know for sure if colloidal silver is helping, or not.
And of course, never overdo it. Silver is very powerful, and in the eyes, a little bit appears to go a long way.
One Final Important Thought…
If you’re new to colloidal silver usage and are wondering where to buy it, it’s important to know that you can find it in just about any well-stocked health food store in America.
But it can be extremely expensive. In fact, because it works so well against numerous forms of infection and disease, colloidal silver has the highest price mark-up of any nutritional supplement in existence.
The amount of actual silver in a four-ounce bottle of colloidal silver is about five to 12 cents worth. (Yes, I said five to twelve cents.) Yet the manufacturers mark that up about 60,000%, charging a whopping $20 or $30 per bottle.
With a high-quality Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from The Silver Edge, you’ll never again have to pay exorbitant health food store or internet vendor prices for high-quality colloidal silver!
Indeed, your first batch or two will indeed completely pay for the entire cost of your generator, compared to health food store prices!
What’s more, you’ll be able to give colloidal silver away FREE to family members, friends, and neighbors, because you’ll be making it – literally – for only a few pennies per batch!
