Is Nanosilver the Cure for Neuroblastoma Cancer?
Two years ago, young Canadian science student Adam Noble won $42,900 in prizes and scholarships, for his work on using silver nanoparticles to cure cancer.
Now, he’s in medical school, while simultaneously working with several prominent Canadian cancer research organizations to perfect what he believes will be a cure for childhood neuroblastoma cancer – a serious and debilitating form of cancer that kills 50% of children afflicted with it.
Here’s the story that could eventually change the way thousands of childhood cancer patients are treated, as well as change the outcomes from largely negative to largely positive…

According to the Canadian newspaper Peterborough This Week, a young Canadian undergraduate science student named Adam Noble “believes he may have discovered a breakthrough in the cure for cancer.”
In an April 2013 article, the newspaper states, “If all goes as planned, future cancer patients could rely on one Lakefield student’s discoveries and research for treatment.”
At age 19, Noble had already gained international fame by winning thousands of dollars in prizes and scholarships for his science projects on silver nanoparticle extraction from waste water – a process he patented and claims will allow waste water treatment plants to reclaim millions of dollars worth of silver from waste water at a relatively low cost.
Making Money v/s Saving Lives
But making money is not Noble’s main goal in life; helping save lives is.
Now in medical school, and recently featured on CBC’s The Natural, Noble works in conjunction with The Hospital for Sick Children of Toronto, Canada, which helps fund clinical studies into neurological cancers.
He also works with the University of Calgary and The James Fund of Peterborough, Canada, which helps fund cancer research into childhood neuroblastoma.
According to the newspaper Peterborough This Week, Noble’s latest award-winning work with silver nanoparticles might just be the next anti-cancer breakthrough:
“In working with different combinations of [silver] nanoparticles, Adam has developed a way to target cancer cells and effectively fight them.
…To test his theories, Adam planted a cancerous tumour into a chicken embryo, which then embraced the tumour and grew blood vessels which attached to it.
He then injected the nanoparticles into a blood vessel on the opposite side of the embryo. The particles were immediately directed to the cancerous tumour and within eight days, Adam saw the tumour decrease in size by 45 per cent. After 48 hours, he found 75 per cent of the particles went straight to the tumour.
…So far, Adam has tested the effects of nanoparticles on various cancer cells including neuroblastoma, cervical cancer, skin cancer and lung cancer. The method appears to be universal, Adam says with a big smile.
While he’s still modest about the work, he’s not afraid to say his research could be a breakthrough. While he’s had the support of Sick Kids hospital, the University of Calgary and the James Fund behind him, the research is all his own.
From developing and patenting the filtration method to reclaim nanosilver to coming up with a combination of particles to target cancer cells, Adam is working with products no researcher ever has.
“I’m very excited,” he says. “It’s pretty amazing.”
According to Dr. David Kaplan, of The Hospital for Sick Children in Canada:
“Adam has come across something original and new.
And we’re working in a field in kid’s cancer where half the kids with the particular cancer we study, which is called neuroblastoma, will likely die from their cancer, because we have no real treatment…no cure…and we’re looking for new ideas.
And what Adam has come up with is a new idea. And that’s great.”
Of course, using silver nanoparticles to stop cancer cells from proliferating, and even to kill them, is not a particularly new idea.

What’s truly new and innovative about Noble’s work is that he’s directing it toward a specific form of cancer – childhood neuroblastoma – which, as Dr. Kaplan of the Hospital for Sick Children in Canada points out above, kills 50% of those children afflicted with it.
According to an online interview with Noble conducted by Diana Birrell, Executive Director of the James Fund, “Noble is one of the young scientists we’re investing in to bring about the day when no child dies from neuroblastoma cancer.”
Here’s part of the interview:
Diana: You’re about to work with James Fund scientists Dr. Kaplan and Loen Hansford, some of the best scientists in the world working on neuroblastoma, one of the deadliest cancers in the world. What does that mean to you?
Adam: It’s a dream come true. I think a lot of people my age want to make a difference; we want to contribute and do something that makes the world better.
I never thought I’d have a chance this early in my career and life to work with some of the best scientists on one of the toughest cancers.
I want to learn everything I can and work as hard as possible to help The James Fund see a day when no family loses their child to neuroblastoma.
Diana: What do you hope to come away with from your time with The James Fund?
Adam: …I can’t imagine a better training ground to prepare me for the medical career I hope to have. That’s my professional goal.
But I have a personal one too…I’d like to be part of the team that can turn to the desperate parents of very sick children and say “yes your child has neuroblastoma but don’t worry. It used to be fatal but it’s not anymore.”
I hope to be able to look back one day and have been part of making that possible for sick children and their families. That would mean a great deal to me as a person.
According to the James Fund spokesperson, “With the continued support of The James Fund, Adam’s promising new cancer therapy will go to preclinical trials this fall. Adam’s planned career path is medical research following completion of a medical degree and a PhD program.”
According to Peterborough This Week, “Pre-clinical trials for Adam’s work in cancer treatment will start up in collaboration with Sick Kids and Princess Margaret hospitals in Toronto.
The medical experiments will be the first of their kind to happen at Trent University. The trials are expensive and the team is currently looking for donations, he says. To learn how to contribute, contact Mr. Noble at email@example.com.
Mr. Noble says he’ll be forever grateful to the James Fund, the Peterborough-based charity focusing on children’s cancer research. “Diana (Birrell) at the James Fund really had faith in me and my hypothesis,” he says. “Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”
Colloidal Silver and Cancer
Of course, colloidal silver – a safe, natural nutritional supplement which can be purchased in just about any well-stocked health food store in America – is often used as a nutritional adjunct to cancer treatment by natural health-oriented individuals.
Though the FDA frowns on the use of colloidal silver for any medical purpose, many cancer sufferers have claimed to experience dramatic results when adding colloidal silver to their daily nutritional supplement regimen.

There have been no clinical studies to date demonstrating that the oral use of colloidal silver, or any other form of silver, can actually cure cancer in human beings, though there have been a number of clinical test tube studies – including Adam Noble’s, discussed above – demonstrating various forms of silver to kill cancer cells and to reduce the size of tumors.
This means one should never forego medical treatment in favor of colloidal silver or any other nutritional supplement solely on the basis of online news stories or anecdotal accounts. Be wise. Run everything by your specialist.
