Colloidal Silver and the Bubonic Plague Outbreak of 2017
According to the World Health Organization, there’s been an outbreak of the flea-borne Bubonic Plague – aka the Black Death — in Madagascar. And the medical authorities have now issued warnings that the plague could spread to nine other nearby countries due to the frequency of airline flights from Madagascar, a vacation hotspot for the wealthy.
Since the start of the outbreak, I’ve received a number of questions asking if colloidal silver might be effective against the Bubonic Plague. Of course, I’ve written about this topic in the past when cases of Bubonic Plague began cropping up in Colorado, New Mexico and other western states in the U.S.
So for those who are interested in learning more, I’m going to provide the link to my previous article, below, as well as some brand new information on using colloidal silver to control fleas on pets, since fleas are the main carriers of the Bubonic Plague pathogen, and humans have been known to contract Bubonic Plague from their pets…

According to WHO (World Health Organization), plague warnings have been issued for nine countries near the island of Madagascar amid fears the disease could spread via sea trade and flight routes.
CNN says nearly 1200 people have been stricken by the disease on the tropical island, and 124 of them have died so far, prompting British health authorities to warn Brits not to travel to the island, which is apparently a vacation hotspot for wealthy Europeans.
Madagascar typically reports between 300 and 600 cases of Bubonic Plague every year, largely among their poor who live in slums which abound with rodents that carry the fleas that in turn harbor the Bubonic Plague pathogen, Yersinia pestis.
But according to the UK Sun newspaper, “The current outbreak is considered a much bigger threat to the region than in previous years because it has taken on its pneumonic form — meaning it is airborne and spread by sneezing and coughing.”
According to Madagascar’s director of health promotion, Dr Manitra Rakotoarivony, “Normally, people who catch the plague live in poor areas, but people in every place in Madagascar society are now catching the disease.” He confirms this is because the disease has gone airborne, meaning it can now be spread simply through coughing.
Will It Spread?
Jimmy Whitworth, a professor of International Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine says the risk of Bubonic Plague spreading internationally from Madagascar is low, even though it’s a vacation hotspot.
However, here in the U.S. over the past few years, cases of Bubonic Plague have been showing up in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon and other western states, both in animals as well as humans.
Business Insider mentioned in August 2017 that fleas carrying the Bubonic Plague have been found in Arizona. They also pointed out that this past summer, two human cases of plague infection had been found in Santa Fe, New Mexico. What’s more, in 2015 there were 16 cases of Bubonic Plague in the United States, resulting in 4 deaths – a 25% death rate.
As you can see from the Centers for Disease Control map below, numerous individual cases of Bubonic Plague have stricken the western part of the United States between 1970 and 2012.
What’s more, Last summer in China, parts of the city of Yumen were sealed off and 30,000 confined to their neighborhoods after the plague killed a local man.
This has led some global health authorities and news sources to speculate about the gradual, slow-motion resurrection of the Black Plague, which, in the 14th century, wiped out one-third of Europe’s population “in one of the most devastating pandemics in human history.”
Will Colloidal Silver Help?
So the question is this: Will colloidal silver help against the Bubonic Plague?
The answer, unfortunately, is not crystal clear. That’s because very little clinical research has been conducted on using colloidal silver for the plague.
Nevertheless, in September 2003 American Biotech Labs, manufacturers of ASAP brand colloidal silver, issued a press release claiming they’d “just finished a series of tests at a level three laboratory” and that using their 32 ppm colloidal silver product against a concentration of 81 million Bubonic Plague bacteria per milliliter, they were able to kill all Yersinia pestis bacterium within just two minutes.
You’ve got to admit, that’s an astonishing kill rate for such a hardy and potentially deadly pathogen. Of course, it’s important to note that was a test tube study, and not a study on human beings or animals infected with the Bubonic Plague pathogen. But it’s a strong indication that colloidal silver will work handily against the pathogen, and thus the disease.

Treat Your Pets for Fleas, Too!
Also, it’s important to reiterate that the Bubonic Plague pathogen is usually spread through flea bites. This makes it imperative to keep your pets – dogs and cats alike – as “flea free” as possible.
After all, in the Denver, Colorado case of Bubonic Plague discussed in my above-linked article, one of the individuals who caught the plague got it from his dog after it had become infected by fleas from local mice, rats, ground squirrels or other vermin.
Fortunately, based upon anecdotal accounts, it’s becoming abundantly clear that colloidal silver has some remarkable anti-flea properties. As one colloidal silver user wrote:
