Colloidal Silver and Parvo: What You Need to Know
While there’s no clinical or published veterinary evidence that colloidal silver can be used to cure Parvo (Parvovirus) in dogs, there’s TONS of anecdotal evidence.
Indeed, people have been using colloidal silver on their “Parvo puppies” (and grown dogs with parvo, as well) for many years, and often with great success. Here’s what you need to know…
Parvo (Parvovirus) can be incredibly scary for pet owners, as it often sets in quickly with devastatingly debilitating symptoms in their beloved puppies and even adult dogs.
But the good news is, experienced colloidal silver users have reported great success in healing their puppies and dogs with parvo, many times over.
Hydration is Key
It is important to note, colloidal silver users all report that the most important part of Parvo treatment seems to be first and foremost to keep the puppies (or grown dogs) well hydrated because they don’t like to eat or drink when they have Parvovirus. So Pedialyte for animals (available from the veterinarian, or local pet store), or some other hydrating fluid is given orally throughout the day.
Some people also recommend trying to feed a Parvo-infected dog with strained baby food (i.e., well-strained chicken, for example) in order to get some nourishment into them, since their tummies will not be able to tolerate regular food.
Others recommend a commercial product called Nutristat (available online), which is a gel-like paste that can easily be applied to the dog’s gum line above the teeth if he or she won’t eat at all. Nutristat contains nutrients, electrolytes, fats and protein, and is used to help nourish the dog while eating is problematic due to the virus.
Some people recommend pouring a capsule full of Lactobacillus acidophilus (a beneficial digestive microorganism available at any health food store) into the veterinary Pedialyte before administering it to the dog. That’s because the beneficial digestive microbes will compete for space in the puppy’s tummy with the Parvovirus (i.e., called “competitive inhibition”) and will also help prevent some of the diarrhea, as well as help heal the damage to the stomach lining being done by the virus.
Using Colloidal Silver Orally to Combat Parvo
Because a Parvo-infected dog likely won’t eat or drink voluntarily due to the deleterious effects of the virus on the dog’s stomach, most of the time an eyedropper must be used to orally administer such hydrating liquids to
small puppies, or a 10-cc plastic oral syringe (a plastic syringe without a needle specifically used for oral delivery of medicines) for larger dogs.
Even a simple turkey baster can be used in a pinch for larger dogs if you can’t find a plastic syringe at your local pharmacy (where they’re often sold to administer over-the-counter medications to children, so be sure to check with your pharmacist).
Orally administering colloidal silver to treat Parvo is easy, as demonstrated in this video:
The colloidal silver is administered orally multiple times throughout the day until the dog’s appetite returns and the Parvo symptoms are gone. This can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
While anecdotal accounts vary in terms of the dosages used, for “Parvo puppies” in which the disease is caught early, some people administer up to five eyedroppers full of 10 ppm colloidal silver at a time, up to five times a day, until the puppy’s appetite returns and Parvo symptoms abate.
For larger dogs, some people use up to five 10-cc plastic syringes full (again, no needle) of colloidal silver, orally, up to five times a day until the dog’s appetite returns and Parvo symptoms are gone.
Here’s an in-depth account from a dog lover who used colloidal silver to save her puppy from the dreaded Parvo virus:
“Our 8-month-old pup became very ill with the Parvo virus. I put 30-40 ml of colloidal silver into a plastic syringe and squirted it down his throat around every hour all through the day and night, for the first couple of days.
He wouldn’t drink anything from a bowl, but he would drink it from the syringe.
I also very slowly, injected some up his backside (the quickest way to get something to reach the gut)
After around the second day, he was able to drink and keep his fluids down. I kept his bowl filled with straight colloidal silver and he continually drank it and kept it down.
It took around 10 days for him to recover, but recover he did.
Our pups breeder has cured many of her young pups that have contracted Parvo using colloidal silver.
This was my first experience with Parvo. I followed my breeder’s instructions on how to use the colloidal silver and…well the rest is history
Our pup is now 19 months old and a thriving 60 kilo boy with a natural immunity to Parvo.”

And finally, another reader says he has become adept at saving parvo-infected puppies using colloidal silver:
“Also had a litter of puppies to come down with Parvo.
I lost 2 of them before I realized what they had. I then started pouring full syringes of colloidal silver down the throats of the other 4 puppies, and saved them.
(My friend had told me to try the colloidal silver on the puppies).
I have since saved several more dogs with parvo.
I then bought my own colloidal silver generator so I could make colloidal silver and have it on hand whenever I needed it. After all, the consistency of health food store brands was a joke, from one brand to another.”

Sanitizing Pet Areas with Colloidal Silver During and After Parvo Treatment
Parvo can spread through infected surfaces, so it is important to ensure that the areas where your pup frequents in your home are disinfected thoroughly. Luckily, due to its powerful anti-microbial properties, colloidal silver can help sanitize your home from parvo, too!
As journalist and long-time colloidal silver advocate Angela Kaelin notes in her article, Colloidal Silver for the Healthiest Pets Ever, the process is simple:
“You can…wash your pet’s bedding – blankets, etc. – with a cup of colloidal silver in the rinse water to reduce growth of mold, bacteria and other harmful microbes.
In between washings, spray your pet’s bedding with colloidal silver in a bottle diluted to 10 to 15 ppm. Be sure to let it dry thoroughly.
…If you bathe your pet in the same tub where you bathe yourself and your family, sanitize the tub afterwards by spraying colloidal silver all around inside the tub after your usual clean up procedure.
You can also sanitize your pets chew toys by spraying them with colloidal silver. And you can do the same to sanitize any areas of your house or deck where pets frequent.
If your pet has any accidents or sickness inside your house, be sure to follow up your cleaning procedure on either carpets or hard surfaces with a thorough soaking of colloidal silver. Then let the area dry thoroughly.”
And keeping your home sanitary and clean isn’t the only preventative measure you can take. You can also use colloidal silver daily with your pets as part of their general healthy pet routine.
Daily Colloidal Silver for Healthy Pets
Many experienced users aren’t just using colloidal silver when pets are sick with a specific infection or virus (such as parvo). They also use it, in much smaller dosages, as part of their overall daily healthy pet routine.
For in-depth information about the colloidal silver daily dosages people have found success with their dogs and cats, read my article, Colloidal Silver Dosages for Dogs and Cats.
It’s important to note, colloidal silver is not a “guaranteed” cure for Parvo in dogs as even veterinary-treated dogs often die of Parvo (up to 80% of the time). But the anecdotal evidence for its efficacy is significant, as the example in the above video attests, particularly if you also keep the infected dog hydrated and nourished.
