Can Colloidal Silver Cure Sickle Cell Anemia?

Can Colloidal Silver Cure Sickle Cell Anemia? Is colloidal silver a cure for sickle cell anemia?

Keep in mind that here in the United States, by law, colloidal silver can only be sold as a mineral supplement, and not a “cure” or “remedy” for any disease condition.

Yet, some people in other countries have reported colloidal silver to be helpful in resolving cases of sickle cell anemia. While there’s no medical literature supporting this claim, it’s certainly an interesting one.

Here’s one such report, which you might consider taking to your specialist for appraisal and analysis, if you suffer from this dread disease…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge

I received the following letter several months ago from a colloidal silver user in the Dominican Republic, along with the blood test report that follows:

“Yet another so called incurable falls to colloidal silver. I am (name withheld for privacy) and retired to the Dominican Republic some ten years ago. I have been using colloidal silver for about 4 years and my extended family here uses it as well.

My mother-in-law was given her grand-son to care for; the child had sickle cell anemia and was in very poor health.

My mother-in-law gives all the children colloidal silver; in a matter of 6 months the child 3 years old went for his blood test and they could find no problems; they waited one month more and checked him again and now says he does not have sickle cell anemia. I have the Lab report as proof.

The child’s father has sickle cell anemia also but has not started the treatment yet. In Spanish it is called Falcemia.

I have two others that are starting to use it for the same problem one has already shown signs of improvement in the first month as she did not need blood transfusions this time.

I have used the colloidal silver for just about anything from my vegetable garden to my pets and family. My boy has been asthma free since we started using it.

I enjoy your e-mails and if you ever come to the Dominican Republic give me an e-mail. I wish all you and your company all the best…

— D.W., Dominican Republic

In correspondence with the gentleman from the Dominican Republic who sent the above email, some further questions were answered:

“Hi Steve,

In answer to your questions. The child as far as the grandmother knows had sickle cell anemia right from birth. She cannot remember a time in which he was healthy. He is now 3 and one half years old. She gave him 1 once of silver per day.

The colloidal silver in homemade and is 20 ppm. I make my silver colloidal with 24 volts using distilled water. I have a large battery bank for an house inverter it is 24 volts.

I’m sending the lab report that says ‘falcemia:negative,’ which means the boy now tests negative for sickle cell anemia.

Sorry that I do not have a prior lab report. The parents threw them away. The doctor of the child wants to come visit to find out about what happened.

All the best to you and your staff

D.W.

Another round of correspondence resulted in the following information:

“Hi Steve,

The boy could not be any healthier he show no sign of the old problems. All test show his blood perfect.

He plays with my son all the time. Even the father of the boy thanks me and he has it [i.e., sickle cell anemia – ED] and does not bother to take the cure. This is a crazy country.

All the best and keep up the good work,

D.W.

So apparently the young boy’s father also has sickle cell anemia, but doesn’t bother to use the colloidal silver even though he acknowledges it restored his son’s health. Perhaps when you’ve managed to live so long with such a serious inherited disease, you simply become used to it.

Here’s a copy of the lab report sent to me by the above individual, in which it’s clearly stated that the boy’s blood now tests negative for sickle cell anemia (i.e., “Falcemia: Negativo”).

Silver’s Infection-Fighting Qualities

Interestingly, colloidal silver has been known for decades to be one of nature’s most powerful natural infection-fighters, as the nearly 100 clinical studies and clinical white papers at this link all attest.

And recent medical studies have demonstrated that in people with sickle cell disease, “infection is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality,” (see here), particularly for children aged five years and under (see here).

In fact, researchers claim that “The sickle gene confers an increased susceptibility to infection, especially to certain bacterial pathogens, and at the same time infection provokes a cascade of SCD-specific pathophysiological changes.”

And other research has demonstrated that, “Streptococcus Pneumoniae, (also called the pneumococcus) and Hemophilus influenzae are the two bacteria most likely to cause septicemia in the child with Sickle Cell Anemia, Ninety percent (90 percent) of the infections occur before the age of three years. Thirty-five percent (35 percent) of children with Sickle Cell Anemia who get pneumococcal sepsis die from the infection.”

So for that reason alone it would seem reasonable to speculate that colloidal silver might be helpful to those suffering from sickle cell anemia.

However, I must remind you that colloidal silver is not approved for such usage, and there’s no clinical research demonstrating its usefulness for treating sickle cell anemia nor the infections that can be so rampant because of it.

I’m reporting on the above information only because I hope it might spur some enterprising medical researcher out there to look into the rather amazing possibility that colloidal silver could conceivably prove to be of profound help to people suffering from sickle cell anemia.

Is there a Potential Downside?

Interestingly, an “Informed Consent Form” found on the internet, for people who want to try an “Investigational Treatment Protocol” consisting, apparently, of intravenous colloidal silver administration, has the following warning for people with sickle cell anemia:

  • Patients who have a history of sickle cell anemia must immediately notify the physician of this condition. Careful and thorough pre-loading with select nutrients such as Vitamin E are required if treatment is to be administered.
  • Patients with other forms of anemia or low blood cell counts need to immediately notify the physician of this condition.
  • Large doses of silver may bring about a temporary worsening of anemia, which is then typically associated with a rebounding toward normal blood levels after 72 hours post treatment. More infrequently, silver administration may induce anemia. For this reason, frequent monitoring with urine dip sticks may be ordered by your physician in order to detect an excess loss of red blood cells.

Based on the above information, colloidal silver is clearly not something that in individual with sickle cell anemia would want to try without a doctor’s supervision. Not oral doses, nor intravenous administration (which always requires a doctor).

Sickle cell anemia is a very serious disease, and not to be taken lightly. One should not “wing it” when using a nutritional supplement like colloidal silver in an attempt to help with this disease. And one should certainly not use “large doses of silver” with this disease.

In short, with this disease a doctor’s supervision should always be sought, preferably the treating specialist so he’s always in the loop regarding any nutritional support that might be being used, and so he can monitor the individual for improvement or potential side effects.
