Are Low Silver Levels in Food and Water Making You Sick?
In decades past, food crops were relatively high in silver content. Especially wheat and other grains, as well as fruits and vegetables.
Our drinking water also contained significant trace levels of the mineral silver.
So human intake of small amounts of silver through food and drinking water was, in times past, dramatically higher than it is today.

No Longer the Case
But this natural protective barrier provided by silver against infectious illness is no longer valid. That’s because silver levels in food crops and drinking water have plummeted precipitously over the past 75 years, and continue to plummet.
You see, as I’ll show you directly below, modern farming practices have left our farming soil stripped bare of its previous levels of silver. What’s more, any trace levels of silver left in our drinking water are neutralized by the toxic chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia and bromine now used as disinfectants in municipal drinking water systems.
One of the earliest clinical studies reporting specifically on silver content in the foods we eat was conducted in 1940, by researcher R.A. Kehoe of UCLA. This study reported that an average daily intake of fruit and vegetables would provide between 50-100 mcg of silver as trace elements.
But by 1975 the amount of silver found in our diet – both food and water together – had dropped to staggeringly low levels. In fact, it just about fell off the scale. Researchers found it necessary to use picograms (one trillionth of a gram) as the unit of measurement of silver in food and water instead micrograms (one millionth of a gram).
As shown in the “Report of the Task Group on Reference Man” by clinical researcher W.S. Snyder, by 1975 the average daily human dietary intake (including fluids) of silver was estimated to be a paltry 70 pg/day.
Yes, in just the 35 years between 1940 and 1975, silver levels in foods and drinking water plunged from being measured in millionths of a gram to trillionths of a gram. In other words, barely perceptible amounts.
This is indeed a startling drop in the silver content of our food crops and drinking water.
But that’s nothing. By 1989 when the comprehensive 749 page book “Diet and Health: Implications for Reducing Chronic Disease Risk” was published – documenting the content of vitamins, minerals and other trace elements in foods and explaining their value to our health — silver was no longer even mentioned as one of the trace elements being found in food.

Could this dramatic drop in the silver content of food and water explain why, in decades past, people often went for years, and sometimes even for decades without getting a cold or experiencing flu or pneumonia?

Could it explain the dramatic rise in Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome and Fibromyalgia? Or why systemic Candida yeast infections are now so endemic in the population?
Finally, can it explain why so many tens of millions of people now suffer from low immunity and frequent infectious disease? In short, can the staggering drop over the past 75 years in the silver content of our foods and drinking water explain why it’s so darn easy to get sick these days?

While the FDA claims there’s no relationship whatsoever between human intake of silver and improved health, Dr. Robert O. Becker, M.D., former surgeon and clinical researcher at Syracuse Medical University, vehemently disagreed.

“In 1909, the Journal of the American Medical Association was the first medical journal to point out that colloidal silver could actually increase our immune cells’ phagocytic index.
In the past few years, more studies have shown that silver ions greatly enhance the essential second part of the phagocytic index — the part where the germ is digested by our immune cells.
This is brought about because silver ions increase the “digesting juices” (what you know as hydrogen peroxide) of these immune cells so they’re better able to destroy pathogens.”

What’s more, according to clinical researcher V. Edwards-Jones, writing in Letters in Applied Microbiology, in an article titled, “The Benefits of Silver in Hygiene, Personal Care and Healthcare”:
“Silver has been used for centuries as an antimicrobial agent to reduce bio-burden and prevent infection…Increasing evidence of improved antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles of silver and possible dual immunomodulatory effects are exciting.”
Dr. Kent Holtorf, of the Holtorf Medical Group, agrees, stating that in spite of FDA protests to the contrary, silver may well indeed be a natural component of the human immune system:
“There is evidence that silver is a natural critical component of our immune system and that low tissue levels associated with a dietary deficiency may result in a relatively weakened immune system, making one more prone to infection.”
And finally, as Dr. Ron Surowitz, head of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, has stated:
“…It’s interesting how many of my patients with infections improve so rapidly with the use of Colloidal Silver. It enhances the immune system whereas prescription antibiotic drugs tend to cause Candida yeast overgrowth…”
